Pickering Series 67/68ES 10kV High Voltage SIL/SIP Reed Relays

February 8, 2023

Pickering has launched a new series, Series 67/68ES, which offers optional electrostatic shielding for their current 10kV stand-off Series 67/68 SIL/SIP Reed Relays. Electrostatic screening minimises noise which can otherwise occur between the coil drive and high voltage circuits. The new screening is an extension to Pickering’s internal mu-metal screen which eradicates magnetic interaction when devices are closely stacked.

Reed Relays in Series 67 and 68 are built using a leadframe in a Single-in-Line (SIL) format and has former-less coils. This means that the Reed Relays can be packaged smaller than usual devices, with a measurement of just 58.4mm x 12.6mm x 14.5mm.

Kevin Mallett, Technical Specialist at Pickering Electronics said, “Pickering continuously looks to improve our product offering. Electrostatic screening adds a new level of protection, ensuring our relay families provide the optimum performance for high voltage applications.”

Series 67 Reed Relays have PCB connections to switch and coil, and provides the highest power switch capability amongst all of Pickering’s Reed Relays. On the other hand, Reed Relays in Series 68 have PCB connections to coil and flying leads to the switch, which keeps high voltage away from the PCB. Configurations of the 2 series include:

  • 1 Form A SPST up to 10kV stand-off, 7.5kV switching at 50W (max)
  • 1 Form A SPST up to 8kV stand-off, 6kV switching at 200W (max)
  • 1 Form C SPDT up to 5kV stand-off, 2.5kV switching at 100W (max)
  • 5, 12 or 24V coils are available with the option of an internal diode across the coil connections

Other key features of the Pickering 67/68ES Reed Relays include:

  • Small size
  • Encapsulated in a plastic package with internal mu-metal magnetic screen
  • Optional electrostatic screen
  • Up to 10 kV stand-off, 7.5 kV switching at 50 W maximum
  • Tungsten plated contacts ensure a long and reliable life
  • 5, 12, and 24 V coils with optional internal diode
  • Additional build options are available
